okay. rob is tracking the storm and lots of rain on your radar. >> we are seeing the rain coming in and this is a mild system. if you stepped outside this morning, upper 50s to near 60. you can see the rain right around the ocean-facing side of the mountains. highway 17 into los gatos. light rain around dublin and pleasanton. fog mixed with light rain. napa and petaluma you see the rain. in the cierre the snow levels are high. up near 7,000 feet. you know you will see high snow levels with temperatures near 60. hour by hour, plan on a mild day. temperatures in the mid 60s and in terms of the rain, if you want to catch a break from the showers, it does look like right around midday in between weather systems, showers may ease off, but watch what happens as we head towards the late afternoon

into the evening. there comes the next round in. it may drop 3/4 of an inch of rain. we will let you know how long the rain will stick around in the weekend forecast in a few minutes from now. >> thank you very much. a developing story in san jose this morning. a police officer is injured and an all out manhunt an armed robbery suspect continues after a shootout on city streets. it started on highway 101 near 280 when police say officers spotted two men in a car that looked a lot like one used during four armed robberies used during the day. when officers tried to pull the car over, they sped off, leading officers on a chase. at that intersection, one of the suspects started shooting, grazing one officer as he ducked for cover. another officer in a second place car shot back hitting one suspect. the suspect ran away and was later caught and expected to

survive, but his friend, the other suspect, also ran away and is still on the loose. the suspects are believed to be involved in a crime spree including armed robberies at a pizza parlor and a fast food restaurant scattered throughout the city. police are investigating the 42nd homicide of the year. officers say a man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a 7-11 store on south keily boulevard. the motive is unknown. officers say they are not sure whether this homicide is connected to the pursuit and shootout we just told you about. in valet ho the 14-year-old accused of a violent sexual assault on a woman old enough to be his grandmother will be charged as an adult. he faces changes of attempted murder, robbery, and kidnapping in connection with thursday's attack. king abducted the woman at

gunpoint in the parking lot of a valet ho shopping center 5:00 thursday evening and force her to drive to another location where he sexually assaulted her and bound her and as she was unconscious, he dumped her on the side of the road. seniors are taking steps to protect themselves. >> you wait around for the police and they might get there after the fact. so people are going to have to start packing. >> during the two-hour ordeal, the teen used his own cell phone it call her family and demand a ransom which was not paid. the 65-year-old suffered serious injuries and is recovering at the hospital. the 14-year-old suspect is due to be in court on monday as an adult. was it all a big mistake? that's the question after a southern california man was arrested at the oakland airport. here's what happened. jeffrey mcgan was going through

security at lax when they saw a suspicious device. it was a watch that looked like a timing device for an explosive. the bomb squad was called in and determined it was not an explosive. >> he came in wearing a watch that had a toggle switch on it. it had fuses and had a circuit board and also had wires protruding from it. >> mcgan was wearing two sizes too big with a secret compartment carved out in the middle of the shoe. she charged with material to make a destructive device, but friends say this is a misunderstanding and she a unique artist. a stunning investigation as a sheriff's deputy is accused of robbing a bank and it's all caught on camera. we have photos of the crime in

progress. this man last wednesday went into the bank of america in the outer richmond district of san francisco and handed the teller a bank note demanding money and took off. >> the residents of san francisco expect the men and women in uniform to uphold the laws and serve and protect the community and the conduct of this defendant is deplorable and there will be serious consequences. >> he was identified through surveillance photos like this one in fingerprints. he faces felony robbery charges. the 36-year-old father of two recently filed for bankruptcy. if found guilty of a felony, he will be fired. >> per we know mothers give life, but how often do you hear of a child giving their mother life? a south bay teen used something she used in school two years ago to keep her mom alive. >> you are looking at a newman.

there. >> an eerie case of a missouri man in jail accused of planning a copycat movie theater screening at the twilight movie. police arrested 20-year-old after a tip from his mother. she alerted police that her son performed weapons similar to those used in the movie theater shooting and feared her son might try to replicate the crime. the suspect told them he bought a ticket to the sunday showing and planned to shoot people there. friends say the man has a history of mental illness. say goodbye to the twinkie, at least for now. the iconic american junk food is about to go extinct. they are going out of business. this hostess plant in oakland is among several across the country that will shut down. they cannot survive after a labor dispute with employees. they were first made in the thirds as a depression-era

three million years old. it looks like a series of jagged rocks is a spinal cord of an extinct whale. they won't be excavated, but a tidal pool will get a lot of visitors next month because there is an extra low tide starting in mid-december that will leave the bones exposed. now rob joins us with a look at the forecast. we have our nbc bay area food drive. we will be scattered about. who will get the most rain? >> i think the north bay. we witnessed that in the last 24 hours near santa rosa. an inch and a half of rain. the trend will continue with the next batch that will sweep through late this afternoon and evening. it's muggy outside. you have rain fall and temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60. the winds out of the southeast. 15 to 30 miles per hour that will be the case through the

morning until about midday today. we have got rain off and on for the morning and you may notice a few sunny breaks and we catch a bit of a break. it's not going to last long. rain sweeping out by late afternoon and during the day sunday, we will catch clearing when the next batch sweeps through. the radar shows you how the moisture is sweeping in off the ocean. mainly light to moderate rain. light rain and wood side to west menlo park. light rain to pleasant and dublin. into san francisco, mainly heavy mist that is falling and more than mist for parts of the north bay. moderate showers there. snow near 7,000 feet and high snow levels that will drop late into tonight and tomorrow. the next batch of rain will sweep in out of the north bay towards 5:00 and 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00.

rain through the south bay. sunday doesn't look bad as the storm shifts to the north. that will continue monday into tuesday. sonoma county northward will see rain at times. the next 24 hours they pick up 3/4 of an inch of rain. san francisco and oakland with significant rain. a half inch expect for the next wave this evening. sierra locations over a foot of snow, but most will fall above 6,000 to 7,000 feet. temperatures are like one giant microclimate. upper 50s to mid 60s. rain easing up a little bit midday and sweeping back in for the evening and sunday showers early and clearing for the afternoon and the transition to the north bay or should i say the far north bay for monday into tuesday. wednesday get away day will look like more rain coming in, but for now, thursday, thanksgiving, into friday is drier. the main event is later on

good morning. looking live at a dramatic shot of the bay bridge this morning. lots of heavy fog and drizzle. what rob likes to call hair spray rain. thanks for joining us this morning. wait until we go outside. it's like a chia pet. >> it's muggy out there. we have very saturated air that is being thrown into the air. you see condensation. you have rain showing up on the radar and you have light rain to moderate rain at times right there at the summit around hayward and union city. lighter rain around san francisco and parts of the north bay. temperatures, notice a trend. we will get into the mid 60s and

then by 5:00, things cooling off in the north bay because the next round after we lose the widely scattered showers that will taper off slightly by lunchtime. right at 7:00 is the next main event. we could see up to 3/4 of an inch of rain. fairly significant as the rain increases. a full look at the rest of the forecast coming your way in a few minutes. >> thank you very much, rob. new this morning, 200 air strikes by israel as violence along the gaza strip continues. people were killed in the latest attacks. that includes the headquarters of a rocket strike aimed at the holy city of jerusalem. they set off 500 rockets with some aimed at jerusalem.

the search continues for two workers still missing after an oil rig fire in the gulf of mexico. the coast guard has been searching through the night as federal investigators assess the impact as well. >> something just blew up. >> this is new video taken by a fishing crew as flame ripped through the oil platform. fire started as workers used a torch to cut an oil line on friday. four workers are badly burned and being treated at the hospital. 11 others are also injured. so far it appears no oil is coming from the well. the country of myanmar is getting ready for president obama's historic visit on monday. they are selling t-shirts and coffee cups visiting president obama's image. local business owners believe the visit will reinforce steps towards political and economic reform and bring prosperity to the country. president obama is expected to

we head towards midday before the next major event in terms of the rain sweeping in. another thing you will notice is how muggy it is. the rain falling and temperatures that are in the upper 50s to near 60 around half moon bay. speaking of san jose, it is a gusty morning. winds at the airport east-southeast at 16. gusts close to third. it will be breezy and muggy for the morning with the areas of lighter rain. midday a brief break may get a mix of sun. raindrops out and improving continues through the afternoon. r radar shows lighter rain to areas south of san jose. around the santa cruz mountain and it is rain into the east bay hills into pleasant ton and the lighter rain around san francisco. back to the golden gate and the swiss cheese effect on the

satellite and radar. here comes the next band of showers that will sweep in. that will make the rain more widespread as we head through the afternoon. temperatures here hour by hour, notice what we are seeing. numbers starting to cool there as the next round of rain starts to drop in. there it is. 6:00 in late afternoon. north bay into san francisco and spilling into the south bay between 8:00 and 10:00 this evening and into sunday, things dry out. the storm track lifts off to the north and only the north bay will be affected by showers in northern sonoma county through tuesday and into wednesday, the raindrops in on us once again. the totals for the north bay are extensive. 3/4 of an inch and less as you expect to see around san jose as we head towards the evening. rain increasing towards the evening into overnight. sunday we catch a break for the afternoon. showers early and clearing and showers for the far north bay

we are getting the bulk of it now. tapering off and picking up again for your thanksgiving travel. house democratic leader nancy pelosi is a big giants fan. she received goodies thanks to the world series victory by her hometown baseball team. before the world series started, pelosi and house democrats made a bet on the out come between the giants and the tigers. we know what happened. pelosi enjoyed them and they made soda and chips and hot dogs given to her by four michigan democrats. that might have been the best part for her. a big upset in the world of college basketball. the number four-ranked stanford cardinal beat the number one ranked team in honolulu. they beat baylor in a nail biter at 71-69 that snaps the amazing win streak of 42 games. it is back to work as usual for

49ers head coachs the team prepares for the minute night game. he underwent a minor procedure earlier this week to correct an irregular heartbeat. he started experiencing chest pain on wednesday, but the procedure was mainly precautiona precautionary. as for alex smith, she on track to start against the bears on monday night, but has not officially been cleared for contact. smith practiced in a non-contact capacity for a third straight day yesterday and he is progressing well and doctors will continue to monitor him before clearing him to play. the bears quarterback jay cutler has been ruled out for the game. both suffered concussions last week. still ahead on today in the bay, say hello to this face? how can you? you can make him yours.

. a few lucky families receive the gift of a time. habitat for humanity will dedicate five homes that are part of the neighborhood revitalization program. that program is designed to help neighborhoods hard hit by foreclosure and create responsible home ownership opportunities for working bay area families. the dedication ceremony will take place at one of the homes at 10:00 this morning. habitat for humanity has built 39 homes in the two cities in the past 23 years. this morning we have some special guests from pets in need. lisa simmons is here with a cute pap yon. >> definitely has the look about her. she is an adult. she is fully grown and between 1 and 2 years old. a great travel companion.
